School Council October 2014

Park Safe, Walk Safe

At a recent School Council meeting the issue of cars parking on the yellow zigzag lines at the beginning and the end of the school day was raised as an ongoing problem. Pupils discussed this issue, designed some posters and communicated some important safety advice to parents. See below.

To parents from the School Council

Unfortunately a small minority of parents are still parking on the zigzags, making it difficult to cross safely, causing obstructions and creating a safety hazard.

Children’s safety is paramount and the last thing we want is a child getting hurt (or worse) through congestion and inconsiderate parking. .

If you need to drive your child to school, for the safety of your child, their friends and the local community, we request that you park safely, legally and considerately.

The Park & Stride idea is a simple solution to this problem and means that children walk some of the way to and from school. Not only is this good for the environment but it counts towards your 30 minutes a day exercise!

Consider parking further away from the school and walking the last 5 or 10 minutes. Walking to school is good for your health, means there’s less congestion outside the school, improving air quality and safety around the school, and you get to spend more time with your children.

This issue has been the focus of our class council meetings this term and the children have been busy designing posters to raise awareness of the potential risks.

TO HELP KEEP OUR CHILDREN SAFE

PLEASE DRIVE CAREFULLY AND COURTEOUSLY WHEN ARRIVING IN THE MORNING AND DEPARTING IN THE AFTERNOON
